Dr. Sherwin

Dr. Sherwin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and grew up nearby in Wauwatosa, WI.  His childhood hobbies included bicycling (went on (3) 500 mile bike trips around the state on his 10-speed Schwinn), animals & biology, aquariums, sporty cars & Boy Scouts (he attained the rank of Eagle Scout). He attended public high school at Wauwatosa East H.S. where he performed in several musical productions.  He went on to complete his B.S. degree in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin(Madison, WI).  He entered podiatric medical school at the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, CA where he graduated in 1987 with a B..S. degree in Basic Medical Sciences and a Doctorate: Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree.

He then moved to Detroit, MI, where he completed his residency training at Southwest Detroit Hospital where he served as "chief resident" among the 4 podiatric residents there.  He then went on to complete a surgical preceptorship program in Milwaukee, WI, to further advance his surgical skills.  After his training was over, he went to work for 2 doctors as an associate in Milwaukee, WI  & Manitowoc, WI.  At that time, he decided to open his own practice in Green Bay, WI, where he developed a thriving practice in nearby De Pere, WI, an adjacent suburb (where Bart Starr had his home).  In 2004 he heard the call of the mountains & ocean----which he really enjoyed in California-----and decided to move to Washington State where he could enjoy both at the same time. He chose Bellingham (over Seattle) where he opened his own practice in 2005.  His first office location was in Sehome Village, but after 5 yrs., his rapidly expanding practice outgrew it's space, so he moved his practice to it's current location at 2000 Broadway in the Fountain District.

In his off time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling, visiting family & friends back in Wisconsin, walking their dogs (golden retriever & miniature schnauzer), sports cars, rooting for the Seahawks, reading, military aviation & space history (especially WWII aviation; his father served on B-26 bombers in Europe) and volunteering at museums, etc. He is on staff at St. Joseph Hospital Medical Center (Bellingham) & the Bellingham Ambulatory Surgical Center.  He is a past member of the Washington State Podiatric Medical Association & the American Podiatric Medical Association.  He is board certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics. He stays current on new developments & techniques by attending conferences, lectures, seminars & online courses and thoroughly enjoys helping his patients to conquer their foot/ankle problems & enjoy their lives to the fullest by remaining active & independent.
